Hey PNW O ppos, need some help finding someone who knows what they’re doing and charges a fair rate. My Cayman has been throwing codes tha t indicate either 02 sensor (there are two pre-cat and two post- cat) or catalytic converter failure. Both potential problems are under the car and I don’t have a four post lift, so for the first time in a long time I need to pay a pro. I avoid stealerships unless you have positive experiences with local Porsche dealers that indicate otherwise . Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have absolutely no idea, but there’s a shop I go to that’s part of a dealer (Chevy of Everett). I go there mainly because my roommate works as a customer servicer for the service department. They do all makes, except for specialist work (like ECM).

But if we’re talking o2 sensor and cats, they could do it. But pricing isn’t exactly indie level.

Other than that, the only indie mechanic I know of with a halfway decent rep is GN Northwest, they have experience with the obvious makes (Buick Grand National) and race cars - they’re the regular mechanic for a local racing team.

P.S. if you decide to give Chevy of Everett a shot, ask for Dustin and tell them the Killer Queen sent you. They'll know.

Shoot, let ME know if you do find someone good. I’ve had some pretty unfortunate experiences in my brief lif e trying to find a decent indie guy in the Seattle area ...

Also, as a rule of thumb, the pre cat sensors are much more important than the ones after. Has vehicle performance degraded in any way?

Talk to dave at o.n.b. automotive. He runs a good shop.

updating you: Chevy of Everett called back to answer my question about if they’ve worked on Caymans. They have worked on a few in the past , and they can look at your exhaust issues. But they can’t do any programming (that’s typically limited to Porsche dealers).

Good luck on the mechanic search.

Not really, it’s been throwing codes for over a year now (I have a Durametric cable and can read, and er ase codes easily). The P0301 and P0401 codes are popping up more often and I figure I can’t ignore it fo re ver . I know the pre-cats O2 sensors are probably the issue, but with 4" of clearance ramps or stands there isn’t enough room to get to ‘em.

If you want to do self service, head to Stew’s in Kirkland. They rent out garage stalls on an hourly basis. They have lifts.

I’ll definitely bookmark that site, very handy! I’d consider DIY but time is a problem for me lately, we still live in Bothell but also bought a 7.2 acre property in Gold Bar (and it needs work). Soon as the wee house is up to snuff I’ll build a 40' by 60' shop with at least one lift in it.

sounds awesome. Let me drop by sometime with a housewarming gift once everything is done? Also, if time is a factor, CoE can do most services in a day if they’re not swamped (which is rare, even with 15 lifts).

If you do go to CoE, let me know how they did. They were the ones who worked on my Interceptor when the rear axle blew up.

For almost 15 years, I’ve been taken my older MBs to Adam Takayoshi, now at Mercedes Garage at Park Place. He’s a MB specialist, but you might be able to talk him into it as the shop does work for PP.  He generally has a waiting list though.

Eastside European and Chris’ German used to be the go-tos for Porsche in the Redmond area.

All my Bimmer-owning friends used to go to Eastside Bavarian in Issaquah and really liked it, I know they do VWs but not sure if they have all the gear for Porsche.

I take my Cayman to Squires Autowerke. They serviced my 08  from the first owner and have been great to work with since.

I go to Europa on 175th in Shoreline. Tan has been good with me. I just got my car diagnosed there (somehow I missed that my wheels are bent) for about $6 0. He has always been good about giving me reasonable cost options and not recommending stuff unless it’s necessary.
